VIVIANITE    Chickering Mine, Walpole, NH
4 mm fov.
Species:           VIVIANITE
Locality:          Chickering Mine, Walpole, NH
Specimen Size: 4 mm fov.
Field Collected: Tom Mortimer
Catalog No.: u1729
Notes: My first guess for this specimen was vauxite, however the EDS analysis showed no aluminum, an essential element for vauxite. The analysis is consistant with vivianite, with some Mn substituting for Fe. This is particularly intense blue for vivianite.

SIDERITE    Palermo Mine, N. Groton, NH
2.5 mm field of view
Species:           SIDERITE
Locality:          Palermo Mine, N. Groton, NH
Specimen Size: 2.5 mm field of view
Field Collected: Walter Lane material
Catalog No.: u1548
Notes: A polished grain EDS analysis (BC10) showed only Fe, O, Mn (unlabeled at about 5.9 KeV) and C, some of the carbon response is due to the carbon coating required for EDS. Collectors use the term "fish egg" habit for this siderite form.

DOLOMITE    Pike Quarry, Hooksett, NH
0.8 mm pale yellow-tan saddle-shaped dolomite crystals
Species:           DOLOMITE
Locality:          Pike Quarry, Hooksett, NH
Specimen Size: 0.8 mm pale yellow-tan saddle-shaped dolomite crystals
Field Collected: Tom Mortimer - 10/25/14
Catalog No.: TBC
Notes: A raw crystal on carbon tape EDS analysis (BC24) indicated a Ca, Mg carbonate with minor Fe & Mn. This EDS spectrum suffers from low counts and insufficient averaging. I had difficulty photographing these.

ALMANDINE    Etna Highlands Locality, Hanover, NH
1 cm almandine crystal in schist
Species:           ALMANDINE
Locality:          Etna Highlands Locality, Hanover, NH
Specimen Size: 1 cm almandine crystal in schist
Field Collected: Tom Mortimer
Catalog No.: NC
Notes: This is a Phillip Morrill locality that is listed in slashes (i.e. as a documented but "Unlocated site") Curt LaPlante and I, when searching for this site in the 1990's, believed we collected these garnets in the referenced area. Morrill notes "almandine crystals to 1/2 inch." The ones we found, such as the one illustrated here, approximate that size. These were not abundant in the spot we collected. These are not particularly remarkable for NH almandine garnets, but an example is included here to document the locality and to calibrate a future collector's expectations.

ZINNWALDITE (group)    S. Percy Peak, Stratford, NH
4.2 cm specimen

ZINNWALDITE (group)    S. Percy Peak, Stratford, NH
Zoom view shows a pair of zoned 9 mm zinwaldite crystals.
Species:           ZINNWALDITE (group)
Locality:          S. Percy Peak, Stratford, NH
Specimen Size: 4.2 cm specimen. Zoom view shows a pair of zoned 9 mm zinnwaldite crystals.
Field Collected: Phil Partington - early 1990's
Catalog No.: 1949
Notes: Gift from Bob Wilken. Bob repatriated this specimen from Arizona on a 2015 trip to the southwest.

APATITE-(CaF)    Palermo Mine, N. Groton, NH
1 mm field of view. Cauliflower form apatite on childrenite
Species:           APATITE-(CaF)
Locality:          Palermo Mine, N. Groton, NH
Specimen Size: 1 mm field of view. Cauliflower form apatite on childrenite
Field Collected: Forrest Fogg material
Catalog No.: u1579
Notes: A carbon tape mounted grain EDS analysis (BC18) showed only P, Ca, O and minor Fe, (likely from the orange oxide coating). The small Si and Al responses are likely from grain surface contamination and the C from the carbon tape.

TRIPHYLITE    EE Smith Mine, Alexandria, NH
A 6 cm chunk of massive triphylite.
Species:           TRIPHYLITE
Locality:          EE Smith Mine, Alexandria, NH
Specimen Size: A 6 cm chunk of massive triphylite.
Field Collected: Tom Mortimer
Catalog No.: NC
Notes: A voucher specimen for triphylite at the EE Smith Mine, Alexandria, NH. This triphylite has a more brownish tint than some other NH triphylite occurrences.

Locality:          Island Mine, Alstead, NH
Specimen Size: A 6.5 cm specimen with pair of terminated dravite crystals in coarse mica matrix
Field Collected: Tom Mortimer
Catalog No.: NC
Notes: A difficult specimen to photograph with black lustrous dravite and bright reflective mica.

FERRO-GEDRITE    Lovejoy Pit Passaconaway, NH
3 mm fov. Fibers of ferro-gedrite on albite
Species:           FERRO-GEDRITE
Locality:          Lovejoy Pit Passaconaway, NH
Specimen Size: 9 mm fov. Fibers of ferro-gedrite on albite. Second view about 3 mm
Field Collected: Unknown - circa 1960's
Catalog No.: A Bob Janules specimen
Notes: These fine needles have the appearance of actinolite var. byssolite. Similar material from Moat Mountain has been analyzed to be ferro-gedrite.
